UK & Ireland Panel News Update
Panel Members hold regular quarterly meetings and share topical presentations.
The UK/Ireland panel in collaboration with the Irish DXA Society hosted a hands on workshops for Hologic with a Clinical Skills Assessment to evaluate its impact. The workshop on October 24 was attended by six participants.
Panel Chair, Susan van der Kamp, and Vice Chair, Rowena Johnson, report “The skill mix was good and feedback excellent, we are confident that the participants were happy with the day’s practical hands-on training. Individuals had an opportunity to follow the above program, there was ample opportunity to ask questions from the staff running the workshop. It was suggested that an education source of joining the ISCD is excellent for obtaining skills competency and knowledge.”
Latin American Panel News Update
On October 16th, as part of the XXXIV Mexican Annual Meeting of Orthopedics and Traumatology FEMECOT 2024 held in Cancún, Quintana Roo, the ISCD-FEMECOT Symposium was held with great success. This collaboration highlighted the significance of bone mineral density (BMD) assessment in orthopedics and traumatology, reinforcing ISCD’s presence and influence within the orthopedic community in Mexico and Latin America.

Asia Pacific Panel News Update
The Asia Pacific (AP) Panel of the ISCD is proud to have held the first Hands On DXA BMD workshop in the Asia Pacific region in Singapore on November 23, 2024 . The workshop which was organized by Prof Manju Chandran, Senior Consultant and Director, Osteoporosis and Bone Metabolism Unit, Singapore General Hospital and Chair of the ISCD AP Panel and was supported by ISCD, ITS MEDICAL and Amgen Asia. Joy Thorpe (UK) and Susan van der Kamp (Ireland) served as the Expert trainers. They were ably assisted by May Ann Delos Santos (ITS Medical, Singapore). The full day workshop comprised of a didactic session titled , “Theoretical Overview of DXA Scanning”, that was livestreamed and viewed by over 75 participants. and a day long fully subscribed for, hands-on session for 20 participants with a focus on Spine, Hip, Forearm and Lateral Spine. A unanimously positive feedback was obtained from the attendees about the content and quality of the workshop.
Prof Manju Chandran expressed her satisfaction at the the incredible success of the workshop, stating that the workshop would help to elevate the standards of practice of bone densitometry not only in Singapore but also through a snowball effect, the rest of Asia.
