Latin America Panel

As part of the ISCD Latin American Panel’s ongoing educational initiatives, the virtual course “Bone Assessment in the Orthopedic Patient” was successfully delivered on March 12, 2026, during the 6th Argentine Course on Bone Densitometry and the 3rd AAOMM–SAO Osteoporosis Meeting. More than 190 healthcare professionals and densitometry technologists participated in this multidisciplinary activity focused on integrating DXA into orthopedic practice.

Directed by Dr. María Silvia Larroudé and co-chaired by Dr. J. Francisco Torres Naranjo, the course emphasized ISCD standards and best practices in perioperative bone health, fragility fractures, spine surgery, sarcopenia, and periprosthetic assessment. ISCD-affiliated faculty members promoted evidence-based strategies to improve orthopedic outcomes through comprehensive bone evaluation.

The ISCD Latin American Panel sincerely thanks AAOMM and SAO, as well as their presidents, Dr. Antonio Desmond McCarthy and Dr. María Laura García, for their outstanding collaboration and hospitality.

The ISCD Latin American Panel successfully organized the pre-congress course “Comprehensive Osteoporosis Management in Women: Standards of Excellence and Clinical, Technological, and Interdisciplinary Integration” on May 20, 2026, in Guadalajara, Mexico, as part of the XXXIII International Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the State of Jalisco. The activity was developed with local organizational support and the valuable facilitation of the regional gynecology college.

The course brought together more than 100 gynecology specialists and generated strong interest among congress participants, who selected this pre-congress activity from among several educational options. Engagement was further reflected in attendees’ interest in continuing education and future ISCD-related initiatives in bone health and densitometry.

Faculty members affiliated with ISCD and the gynecology community addressed contemporary osteoporosis management, DXA interpretation, TBS, vertebral fracture assessment, fragility fractures, body composition, and hormonal strategies for menopause.

The ISCD Latin American Panel extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Lilia Micaela Gómez Becerra, President of the College of Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialists of Jalisco, for her hospitality and support in facilitating this successful educational initiative.
