UK & Ireland Panel News Update
Panel Members hold regular quarterly meetings and share topical presentations. Recent topics have included TBS in clinical Practice and Osteonecrosis of the Jaw.
The Irish DXA Society recently held a Conference May 10 and 11. If you are interested in highlights from the conference, you may read their newsletter. The UK/Ireland panel will be hosting hands on workshops for Hologic and GE Lunar in Ireland later this fall. Additional information will be provided in future editions of this newsletter.
Latin American Panel News Update
The ISCD Latam Symposium, part of the AMMOM Congress, attracted a hundred participants, including radiologists, endocrinologists, internists, clinicians, and densitometry technicians, among others. The event highlighted the importance of the latest advancements in bone mass evaluation and its implications for clinical practice.
Event Highlights: On June 14th, the Annual AMMOM Congress Puebla 2024 session was held with great success and attendance! The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) Latin American Panel is proud to have participated in the ISCD-AMMOM event “Meet the Professor: Advances in Bone Mass Evaluation: Current Perspectives and Clinical Practice.”

The key presentations, delivered by our esteemed experts and members of the ISCD Latin American Panel, were met with great enthusiasm and sparked in-depth discussions with the attendees. This event served as an excellent platform to update and debate crucial topics in clinical densitometry, furthering our collective understanding and knowledge in the field.
Asia Pacific Panel News Update
On June 15 2024, Saturday, the ISCD – Orthopaedic Osteoporosis and Densitometry Course was held in conjunction with the 2nd Fragility Fracture Network Asia Pacific Congress, featuring multiple sessions designed to provide comprehensive insights into osteoporosis and densitometry.
The workshop featured renowned experts in the field of osteoporosis and densitometry, including Assoc Prof Dr Chanika Sritara, radiologist from Thailand, Assoc Prof Dr Julie Li-Yu, rheumatologist from the Philippines, Dr Wan Chieh Lim, geriatrician and Dato’ Dr Joon Kiong Lee, orthopedic surgeon from Malaysia. Their expertise and engaging presentations significantly enriched the learning experience of the attendees.
The workshop began with a session on Basic and Advanced Densitometry by Assoc Prof Dr Chanika Sritara, who provided a detailed overview of densitometry techniques, highlighting both basic and advanced methods used in osteoporosis assessment.
Following this, Prof Dr Julie Li-Yu presented on Fracture Risk Assessment, Treatment, and Monitoring. This session focused on the comprehensive assessment of fracture risk, including the latest treatment options and monitoring strategies to manage osteoporosis effectively. Dr Wan Chieh Lim then addressed strategies for Secondary Fracture Prevention, emphasizing early intervention and patient education to prevent secondary fractures in patients with osteoporosis.
The next session, led by Dato’ Dr Joon Kiong Lee, discussed Bone Health Optimization. This presentation covered the importance of optimizing bone health through lifestyle modifications, dietary considerations, and pharmacological interventions. The workshop concluded with an Interactive Case Discussion, where attendees discussed real-life cases, sharing experiences and insights to enhance clinical practice in osteoporosis management.
The workshop saw robust participation, with a total of 96 registrations from Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Nepal, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Sri Lanka, Australia, Ukraine, New Zealand, and Hong Kong SAR, China. Professionally, the participants comprised of orthopaedic surgeons, geriatricians, endocrinologists, internal medicine physicians, primary care physicians, pharmacists, master trainees, sports medicine, radiology, nursing senior lecturing, anaesthesiology, rehabilitation medicine, dietetics, family medicine, medical officer roles, and nursing showing a wide range of professionals.
