The effects of Covid-19 on osteoporosis testing
In honor of National Osteoporosis Month (May 2021), the Fracture Prevention Coalition is sharing helpful facts and infographics.
This infographic offers a glance at the major effects that osteoporosis testing is facing due to Covid-19. Because of the already reduced number of DXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) tests being offered, patients around the country will suffer from bone fractures. These fractures can be especially devastating in older Americans, who are also at a higher risk of contracting Covid-19. A bone fracture can lead to loss of independence, long-term hospitalization, and in some cases, death.
These fractures are preventable with proper testing and treatment of osteoporosis.
